Ghana Hockey names squad for 2020 Olympic Games qualifier

The technical team of the national hockey team, Black Sticks, has officially released names of players to represent the country at the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games qualifier.

The team is expected to depart from the country today and join the rest of the continent for the tournament dubbed ‘Road to Tokyo 2020’ scheduled to take place at Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Head Coach of the national female team, Emmanuel Ahadjie, says he is confident that the team he has put together will for the first time make to the Olympic Games just as they did for the Commonwealth Games last year.
The Black Sticks ladies will be captained by Nafisatu Umaru with Serwaa Boakye as the deputy while former captain Rachael Bamfoe has also been recalled to the team.
The squad is made up oftwo goalkeepers, seven defenders, five midfielders and five attackers and per the club breakdownGhana Police ladies has seven players been called to the team while GRA ladies also has 10 players with two from Extinguishers.
The full lists of the players are; Bridget Azumah, Abigail Boye, Juwaila Acquah, Lydia Afriyie, Cecilia Amoako, Rachael Bamfoe, Vivian Nakour, Mavis Boatemaa Berko and Joanita Korwu.
The remaining players are; Evelyn Fiador, Ernestina Coffie, Brenya Maanyembrim, Roberta Sarfo, Serwaa Boakye, Nafisatu Umaru, Deborah Whyte, Queensilla Shaibu, Adizatu Sulemana and Elizabeth Opoku.
Ebenezer Frimpong who heads the technical department of the male team also released his list made up of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, seven midfielders and seven attackers.
He expressed confidence in the team and assured Ghanaians of a good performance and again mentioned that their target for the tournament is to at least play in the finals.The team will be captained by Salya Nsalbini with two debutants Benjamin Kwofie and Tyche Duisberg.
The team will be represented by; Charles Abbiw, Samuel Afari, Samuel Akpene, Michael Akuamoah-Boateng, Alfred Ntiamoah, Emmanuel Ankomah, Sylvester Apronti, Benjamin Kwofie and Christopher Dogbe.
The rest are Elorm Akaba, Eugene Acheampong, Francis Lartey Jnr., Johnny Botsio, Jeffery Karikari, Kwesi Assah-Anim, Luke Damalie, Matthew Damalie, Emmanuel Quansah, Richard Adjei, Salya Nsalbini, Tyche Duisberg Offei, Ernest Opoku and Elikem Akaba.
The tournament will officially begin on Monday, August 12, 2019 and Sunday, August 18, 2019. Ghana starts their campaign against Namibia on the opening day.
